  1. Thank you for building Yappr.I really enjoy it. I'm from China. For me, it always takes me a long time to wait for downloadings. Speed is desirable. What's more, what you have uploaded is fantastic. I hope that someday Yappr will become popular.

  2. Angelozang,

    Thank you for the feedback.

Can you tell me which part of the site has trouble downloading?

    1) Opening Home page
    2) Getting images on home page
    3) Downloading a video you wish to view
    4) Other?

This will help me modify things to improve the performance. Each area may require a different solution.

    Thanks!

  3. It is the speed of downloading a video I wish to view that caused the problem.

  4. Angelozang,

Thanks, that is helpful information. I am working on improving that. Hang on, it will probably take a couple of weeks.

Are you in mainland China? What city?

  5. I'm in Shenzhen in mainland China.
I scarcely know what kind of element caused the snail-like speed of downloading a video. May be it is the fact that I share the 2M bandwidth with my three other friends here taht affected the speed. However, when the other three didn't surf the net, I still waited a long time to download.

  6. I don't think the problem is your local connection, if you are on a 2mb line. We are working on a solution to the problem and hope to resolve it quickly. Thank you for the information; it does help.

  8. Hello. I'm a learner of English in japan.
Let me suggest some of my opinion.

1)I hope to be able to change the font size of transcripts so that I can read it without scrolling.

2)You have the site in three version of languages, which are Japanese, Chinese and Spanish. Because I'm an English-learner, if possible, I wish you to make an English version of the site. (I mean, I want to read the titles of the videos, and all of other words on the site in English!)

    Keep up the fantastic work!

  9. Thank you for your comments!

The scroll bars are showing up more frequently than I had hoped. I added them for the rare instance where the translation was too long, but I will have to find another solution.

English version: we are working on that right now! Stay tuned.

Keep coming back, and tell your friends. More members means more videos!

Three things unique to this spiritual space, tomorrow on the News"までで止まってしまいます.

  12. I agree with above post.
It would be great if we can search idiom/sentences from the video clips on the site.

Hope you keep up the fantastic work!

  14. Thank you for this wonderful website. I used to live in Australia but now that I'm back in Japan, I felt that my English was getting weaker and weaker on a daily basis. I suppose this is because I lost daily contact with English that I had back in Australia.

I hope there will be a lot more programs to this website, so far I've seen a lot of news programs but I hope to see more stuff, like comedy and documentary.

The subtitle in both Japanese and English help me understand some of the vacab I don't remember. It's awesome.

  16. Sho, I am hoping that we grow enough to build a Japanese version of Yappr - I have been back from Japan for 15 years and I rarely use my Japanese. I can barely understand rapidly spoken TV any longer. You can imagine how long it takes me to make each of these posts!

We are about to release an English version of the site, so those of you that wish to test your skills by not having the translations at all will be able to. One of the anonymous comments requested this.

Angelozhang, we should have much better connectivity in mainland China starting later today. It took a while, but we have created a new network infrastructure to support China.

  17. Great!
Just a quick word to wish you the best for this fantastic website you've created.
I am an English teacher in Mexico and find it so nice to give students options for learning it while having fun.
I just wanted to wish you good luck on that project.
As for some constructive feedback... well, I'm not going to be technical, so I will stick to the content of the videos: more news, entertainment news and music videos.
    Thanks again for your site.
Patrick M. (by the way, we have the same name!)

  18. Patrick,

Thanks for your comment. We are looking for features that would be helpful for teachers and their students.

For example, would you like to be able to assign a video to your students and have each of them practice translating it? Then in the classroom you could review and compare translations?

Any other ways you might look to use yappr.com in the classroom?

    Patrick

  19. Hello Patrick,

Thanks for your reply. That is definitely a good idea.

I've been thinking about how to use your videos effectively, and indeed, there is one way that can be effective for any english learner: make students listen and write the dialogues of the speakers.
To make the task easier, the teacher can give the dialogues with blanks so that students can have a look at them and fill in the blanks.
By the way, I have another question: is there a possibility to have a bigger screen option when viewing the videos?
    Thanks for your reply,
    Sincerely,
    Patrick M.

  21. hi, Patrick.
can yappr make something like 'My favourite' so that we can save the movie clip directory for later use?
it seems more difficult for me to manage it when more videos comes from yappr.

We are very close to releasing a set of new functionality, and this should be included. We'll also have categories, and better search.
